Abstract:During the Second World War, from 1940to 1946, the Institute of History and Philology of theAcademia Sinica moved to Banliao near Lizhuang inSichuan province to escape the war. The Society forResearch in Chinese Architecture surveyed and mappedthe Lifeng Villa complex, where the Institute washoused, and took many photographs while investigatingtraditional architecture in southwestern China. Basedon the historical survey data, fieldwork measurements,and pictures as well as literature research, this paperreconstructs the process and working method of theSociety and restores the design of the Lifeng Villacomplex.
