Abstract:Through style comparison, AMS C14 dating, and historical data analysis, this paper explores the early construction history of the main hall at Chongshou Temple in Jincheng, Shanxi province, focusing on the hall’s dimensional design. The findings of the study suggest that the building was repaired at least five times before or during the Yuan period; and two repair activities relate to the timber structure. The paper further points out that the interpretation of the dimensional design of the carpentry system is not only feasible but also necessary for the study of Chinese construction history.
