Abstract:This paper studies the flat (tianhua) and domed (zaojing) coffered ceilings that were installed at the Yongle Taoist Temple in Ruicheng, Shanxi province, during the Yuan dynasty, based on the fifield survey and 3D laser data acquisition carried out by Tsinghua University in 2018 and 2019. To this end, the paper records the current state of the interior decorations and analyzes the design methods and characteristics of structure, while interpreting the value of the Yongle Temple ceilings through comparative analysis.
