Abstract:This paper summarizes the results of the author’s investigation of Liang Sicheng’s field survey reports and research papers published in the Journal of the Society for the Study of Chinese Architecture (Zhongguo Yingzao Xueshe Huikan), with special focus on the achievements, methods, values, and characteristics of Liang’s fifieldwork activity and his fifield-report writing style. This will serve to explore and discover the profound significance of the scientific research carried out by the First Generation of Chinese architectural historians, as represented by Liang, during the 1930s and 1940s.
