Abstract:The paper explores the historical information given in the appendix (Fulu) to the photolithographic reproduction of the Ding edition of Yingzao fashi(compiled by the Ding brothers in the 19th century; published in 1920 by the Commercial Press). Special focus in put on the family history and life of the author of the original twelfth-century Yingzao fashi. While investigating the preservation and circulation history of the 1920 photolithographic reprint, the paper then studies the information contained in the editor’s notes (Shiyu) to the edition of Yingzao fashi by Tao Xiang (1870-1940) and in Fu Xinian’s Yingzao fashi hejiaoben (Integrated version of Yingzao fashi; published in 2019), presenting the data found in the text in tables. This then provides more information to our understanding of the real name of the author of the twelfth-century text (Li Jie or Li Cheng).
